Of all the vendors that you select for your wedding celebration I think that the photographer might be the most important.  On your big day, the beautiful invitations, delicious food, signature cocktail and lively music all make the day special.  The photographer is key to making you feel comfortable and relaxed, keeping your complicated timeline on track and just as important, their work is what you will have forever. 

Your friend got married two years ago and you thought that their flowers were the most beautiful you have ever seen.  Now it’s your turn to get married and you remember the flowers so of course you want to reach out to the florist and see if they are available for your event.  

Whether it is the florist, band, photographer or caterer, there are a few things that you need to know before reaching out.  Here’s where to start:

There are venues for every style and budget.  Before you go out to look at places there are a few things to keep in mind:  Are you more comfortable with an “all-inclusive” venue that will provide catering, bar, staff, etc. or do you want a “raw” venue where you can hand pick every element?

Once you have said yes and put the sparkle on your finger, one of the first things you will be excited to do is decide where to get married.  There is no right answer as to where you should be married.  Pick some place that you both love, that has a special feel and that works with your budget.  If you are in love with where you are getting married, it will be a big step in getting everyone on board with the celebration.   It is the first piece of your wedding puzzle.

Do we really have to talk about money now?  Yes, you really do. 

For some, talking about money is taboo.  For others, it is just plain uncomfortable.  Your wedding may be the single biggest “purchase” you will make together.  The first thing to know is who is paying for the wedding, is it the two of you or are parents hosting? Either way, you need to know what your resources are and where they are coming from.  Once you have this in mind, it will help you to find a venue and vendors that make sense for you. 

I realize that this not the most romantic thing you will do together, but hear me out. 

Planning a wedding involves many pieces that will need to come together for your celebration.  The easiest way to keep track of everything is to gather information and make notes. Paper and pen work well, especially as you are out and about visiting venues, caterers, etc.  At some point, you will want to put things side by side and see what’s the best fit for you.
