LORD BALTIMORE HISTORY:

The Lord Baltimore is one of Baltimore's most iconic historic landmarks, with nearly a century of stories woven into its walls! Originally opening its doors on December 30th, 1928, this majesticFrench Renaissance-style high-rise was designed by noted architect William Lee Stoddart and stood as one of the grandest and tallest hotels in Maryland. Named after George Calvert, Lord Baltimore (the founder of the Maryland Colony), the hotel quickly became a centerpiece of Baltimore's social and civic life. Its elegant lobby, ornate ballrooms, and refind accommodations drew travelers, dignitaries, entertainers, and political figures from around the world. Over the decades, luminaries from Amelia Earhart to Babe Ruth and countless others passed through its doors.

In 1958, the hotel took a progressive stand by voluntarily ending racial restrictions for guests, a bold move at a pivotal time in the city's civil rights history. After periods of closure, renovation, and rebranding under various hotel operators, the Lord Baltimore underwent a major restoration completed in 2014 that revived its historic grandeur while updating it for modern guests. Today, this architectural treasure listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a member of Historic Hotels of America continues to command attention not only for its beauty but also for the countless stories echoed within its corridors.

BUT IS IT HAUNTED??

From the moment it opened its doors in 1928, the Lord Baltimore Hotel has been as famous for the spirits said to linger within its walls as for its historic elegance. Over the decades, guests and staff alike have shared eerie experiences--some consistent and compelling enough that the hotel embraces its haunted reputation and even participates in events like THE WORLD'S LARGEST GHOST HUNT every September.

MOLLY - THE LOST GIRL IN WHITE:

The most enduring and talked-about spirit is "MOLLY" - a young girl who is reported to roam the 19th floor hallways in a white dress, often accompanied by a red ball. Sightings describe her moving silently down corridors or playing innocently, only to vanish when approached. Many believe her story dates back to The Great Depression era, when multiple people tragically died from the rooftop decks - and some researchers link her to one of those heartbreaking events.

PARANORMAL CLAIMS:

  • Elevators that stop on the 19th floor without any call button being pressed.
  • Sensations of being watched or touched by unseen presences!
  • Housekeepers and visitors hearing footsteps, cries, or unseen movement in empty hallways.
  • Rumored handprints in penthouse walls that never wash away.

OTHER SPECTRAL FIGURES:

Some guests also report fleeting encounters with other apparitions:Shadowy figures drersswed in period attire strolling through common areas or lingering near the ballroom as if replaying a long-past celebration. While fewer documented than Molly's appearances, these accounts contribute to the hotel's eerie mystique.

MODERN PARANORMAL INTEREST:

Today, the Lord Baltimore Hotel continues to draw paranormal enthusiasts from near and far. Ghost tours, guest sightings, and dedicated investigation events (including ghost hunting events such as ours)keep the legends alive and fuel curiousity about what's truly unseen in this historic Baltimore landmark!
